LiAngelo Ball to sign G League contract, LaMelo returning to HS

ByMICHAEL BOHLIN on   7/8/2018
It appears as though there will not be a second stint overseas for LiAngelo Ball and his younger brother LaMelo Ball as the Ball family has reportedly decided to bring their two youngest children back to the United States to continue their respective basketball careers.

According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, LiAngelo Ball has notified NBA G League teams that he is planning to enter the player pool to sign a G League contract after not being selected in the 2018 NBA Draft following his one-year stint in Lithuania with BC Vytautas.

In addition, LiAngelo’s younger brother, and former 247Sports Composite five-star point guard, LaMelo Ball has decided that he will no longer be homeschooled going forward and he will spend what will be his senior year of high school playing alongside a pair of other top prospects in Rocket Watts and Isaiah Jackson at Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio.

LaMelo joined his brother in Lithuania before becoming the face of LaVar Ball’s JBA once the league that attempted to offer top prospects an alternative to taking the conventional route of playing in the NCAA was created.

Most recently, both Ball brothers have been part of an overseas tour with the rest of the “JBA USA Team” as the two led a roster of players from across the country who competed in the JBA this year.

The idea of bringing LaMelo back to the United States is centered on the fact that he will have the opportunity to play in front of pro scouts against some of the top prep talent in the country, including a showdown against top prospect Cole Anthony and the Oak Hill Academy Warriors.

At the end of the day, it remains to be seen whether or not these moves make any difference in LiAngelo and LaMelo’s quest to join their oldest brother, Lonzo, in the NBA but the Ball family continues to try to speak that dream into existence by making these moves.
