Marco Villarreal Biography
Marco Villarreal is an American anchor. He works for WFLA-TV, virtual channel 8 in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. He finds the area ” so vibrant and alive” and is excited to explore more and go on new adventures at different hotspots.
Marco Villarreal Early Life
Marco was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He grew up with three different cultures, Mexican (Mother), Argentinian (father), and American. A childhood he considers as “fun”. He also learned that “we all come from different places, but in the end, we’re all searching for what makes us happy.” This only grew after spending two years living in Spain sometime later.
Marco Villarreal Career
Before WFLA-TV, he had worked for a number of other stations. Through the years, he has covered a vast majority of both major and minor stories alike. He started off as an anchor/reporter at BYU-TV in 2006. He left the channel the year after to join KTRK as an intern. On the side, he worked as an anchor/reporter/producer at KBYU-FM Classical 89. He worked here from May 2006 to April 2008.
From January 2007 Marco Villarreal was an anchor/reporter/producer for KBYU-TV. He worked there until April 2008. Soon after, he joined WRCB as a reporter. He left that same year to join WTXL as an anchor/producer/reporter. He continued to work here until February 2010. That same month, he joined KNTV as a general assignment reporter. He reported for the ABC station in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked up to April 2013.
Soon after leaving KNTV, he joined WVLT Volunteer TV as a Morning news anchor. In the station, he anchored morning newscasts for two and a half hours. He also anchored the noon show as well as filling in when needed. During this time, he worked in close range with the Latino community to tell stories and issues that may not get attention regularly. According to his bio on WFLA’s website, he has also had worked in cities like Chattanooga with the station WRCB.
Marco Villarreal Controversy
On the 24th of March 2019, Marco was arrested with charges of beating up a pregnant woman. He was taken to the Hillsborough County jail by his arrestors. The arrest report stated that he was trying to kiss the woman. The woman rejected him and walked away. This made him angry leading to him slamming her against a wall. He was released after posting 7,500-dollar bail. The TV station posted a statement at its website saying Villarreal will not return to the air until the allegations have been investigated.
