Maureen Mccann Biography
Maureen McCann is an American broadcast meteorologist working for Spectrum news 13. She is based in Central Florida. Ever since she was 4 years old, Maureen has always wanted to forecast weather. One of the most influencing things that bought her this passion for weather was when she witnessed a hurricane. This sparked up an interest in her that would, years later, lead her to become a great meteorologist.
Maureen studied at the Ithaca College starting in 1998. She pursued an Exploratory course in Meteorology. In 2002, she completed her studies at Ithaca and soon after joined Cornell University. She spent 2002 pursuing her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Atmospheric Science. After completing her degree course, the next time she joined school was in 2009. She joined the University of Texas Austin where she took her Graduate Studies in Environmental Engineering for about a year.
Since 2016, Maureen McCann has been pursuing a Masters in Emergency Management and Crisis Management with a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems. She is expected to complete her studies in 2020.
Maureen McCann Career
She started her career in weather in May 2001 as a Weather intern at USA Today. She prepared daily weather updates in the Washington, Metro area. In August 2002, she joined WABI-TV as a Weekend weather forecaster. She prepared and presented weather newscasts for the Bangor Maine area. She left the station on September 2003 to join Sentient Jet as a Flight Tracking Representative. Here, she provided weather presentations and forecasts in the Greater Boston area.
At the same time, she worked as an Environmental Engineering Project Assistant for Earth Tech. Her role here was to investigate legal items and other project documentation. In January 2004, she became a weekday morning meteorologist for WTVH in the Syracuse, New York area. She presented forecasts on-air for CBS5 This Morning, Fox 68 Eyewitness News at 7, and CBS5 News at Noon.
In November 2006, she joined Time Warner Cable as a weeknight Meteorologist. She worked for the station until early 2011. After that, she became a meteorologist for KMGH-TV. She prepared and presented forecasts on-air for 7News Saturday and Sunday mornings for the station in the Greater Denver area. From 2008, she has been a Weather consultant for Momentum weather. She also became a Certified instructor for the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center from November 2016.
News 13 Orlando
Maureen McCann joined News 13 in Orlando in September 2013. She works there as a Weekday Morning Meteorologist. Here, she prepares and presents forecasts on-air for the channel to the Orlando Florida area. She also provides radio segments for WMFE and maintains web and social media accounts. Her works garnered her a mention as “Mentor of the Year” from the BHNtern Program in 2018.

Maureen is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society. She is one of the most active members of the organization. In addition, she has also served on the Board of Broadcast Meteorology. She is also the AMS Commissioner on Professional Affairs. Maureen oversees several boards and committees involving the Society’s certification programs. She is also a member of the Rotary Club of Baldwin Park.
In addition to this, she is also a Certified Consulting Meteorologist. She got this certification also from the American Meteorological Society. In addition to all that, she got an NWA Television Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association in May 2016.
