Michael Jordan, a professional basketball player, Olympic athlete, businessperson, the actor was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Michael Jordan’s father worked as a General Electric plant supervisor while his mother worked at a bank.

While in high school Jordan tried to make it to the school team but he failed. Jordan, however, continued to practice and he eventually made the team the next year. After high school, he accepted a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina where he played under head coach Dean Smith.

While at the University of North Carolina Jordan was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Year for 1982 and the team went ahead and won the ACC championship. He left the University of North Carolina after his junior year and joined Chicago Bulls as the third pick of the 1984 draft.
Michael Jordan proved himself on the court as he helped the team make it to the playoffs and scored an average of 28.2 points per game that season. Jordan received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and was selected for the All-Star Game for his efforts in Chicago Bulls.

In 1985,  he completed his degree in geography and continued to play basketball professionally. It was during the 1986-1987 season that Jordan became the first player ever since Wilt Chamberlin to score more than 3,000 points in a single season. This performance earned Jordan a Most Valuable Player Award from NBA and one that was the first of many more to come.

Jordan helped Chicago Bulls make it to their first NBA championship and win it in the year 1991 by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers. The team’s success made Jordan became known for his power and agility on the court as well as for his leadership abilities a factor that made him land several endorsement deals with companies such as Nike.

In 1993, Chicago had won a third straight title of the NBA championship whereas Jordan had received three regular-season MVP awards, three playoff MVP titles, seven consecutive scoring titles, and three straight NBA titles.

Michael Jordan decided to retire from basketball to pursue baseball but this did not last for long as he returned to the basketball court and rejoined the Chicago Bulls where he eventually helped them win the championship against the Seattle Sonics in the 1995-96 season.

The next season saw Michael Jordan come back even stronger averaging at 30.4 points per game. Jordan helped the team finish the regular season with 72 wins and also win the NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. The win earned Jordan even more awards and further increased his popularity among basketball fans and also scouts.

In 1999, Jordan retired for a second time and in the year 2000 Jordan became part-owner and president of basketball operations of the Washington Wizards. However, in 2001 return the court once more where he played for the Wizards for two seasons before hanging up his jersey for good in 2003.
