Michelle Pfeiffer is an American actress and producer. She is one of the most popular actresses of the 1980s and 1990s. She is considered to be among the most talented actresses of her generation and has received many accolades and widespread acclaim for her works. She is well known for playing emotionally distant characters as well as characters with intense sex appeal.

She first began her career in 1978 in minor roles in television series and films. In 1982, she had her first leading role in the musical film Grease 2. After this, she started building interest in the public of her.

She met Peter Horton in an acting class and they began dating. In 1981, they got married in Santa Monica. The couple decided to separate in 1988 and in 1990 they got divorced. On the 13th of November 1993, she got married to television writer and producer David E. Kelley, with whom they met on a blind date arranged by her best friend  Kate Guinzburg.

Her first role was in one episode of Fantasy Island. After performing in much other television series, she moved to film with the comedy The Hollywood Knights in 1980. She played in other supporting roles which weren’t successful until she went and took acting classes at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. He first leads role came in the 1982 film Grease 2. The film was a failure but her acts were greatly praised.

She then played in Scarface as Elvira Hancock, a cocaine-addict and trophy wife in 1983. The film succeeded greatly commercially and her performance was largely supported. She then played in Into the Night, Ladyhawke, Sweet Liberty and Amazon Women on the Moon. These films were not very successful but helped build her presence as an actress. Finally, she played in The Witches Of Eastwick, which was a major box-office hit. In 1988, she played in Married to The Mob. Her performance in the film earned her her first Golden Globe nomination.

Still, in 1988, she won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and got nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. This was for her performance in Dangerous Liaisons with Glenn Close and John Malkovich. Along with these, she got widespread fame and good reviews from many sources.

During the 1989–1990 awards season, Pfeiffer dominated the Best-actress category at every major awards ceremony, winning awards at the Golden Globes, the National Board of Review, the National Society of Film Critics, the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress and the Chicago Film Critics Association. Her portrayal of Susie Diamond in the 1989 film The Fabulous Baker Boys is considered to be the most critically acclaimed of her career.

She played a role in the 1990 film adaptation of John le Carré’s The Russia House and got nominated for a Golden Globe and again for her role in Frankie and Johnny in 1991. She founded her own boutique film production company, Via Rosa Productions. She partnered with Kate Guinzburg at the company and produced their first film Love Field and she earned nominations for an Academy Award and Golden Globe and won a Silver Bear for Best Actress for her portrayal of the eccentric housewife in the film.

In 1992, she played the role of Catwoman in the film Batman Returns. She trained in kickboxing and martial arts for the role. Her performance is considered the best portrayal of Catwoman by critics and fans. She got another Golden Globe nomination and an Elvira Notari prize for her role in Age of Innocence in 1993. She also got a crystal award in the same year to mark her as an outstanding woman who has helped expand the role of women within the entertainment industry.

Her producing company grew her career as a producer. As he still continued acting, she and her producing partner, Guinzburg, experienced a winning streak of producing back to back films next under their Via Rosa Productions header. Under their Via Rosa Productions header, she and Guinzburg produced the films One Fine Day, A Thousand Acres and The Deep End of the Ocean. She produced and also starred in A Thousand Acres, The Deep End of the Ocean, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Story of Us.

She began dissolving Via Rosa Productions in 1999 to go into semi-retirement and spend more time with her children and family. She handed Guinzburg the responsibility of producing Original Sin in 2001, as the last film to be produced under the Via Rosa Productions header. She was to initially star in the film but then changed her mind and Angelina Jolie took her place in the film alongside Antonio Banderas.

She earned Best Supporting Actress Awards from the San Diego Film Critics Society and the Kansas City Film Critics Circle, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for her portrayal of Ingrid Magnussen, in the drama White Oleander in 2002. One year later, she voiced The goddess of chaos in the animated film Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.

She then took a four-year break from acting and came back on screen in 2007 with Hairspray and Stardust. She was then nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award and won the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Cast and the Palm Springs International Film Festival Award for Ensemble Cast.
