Trans Songwriter Teddy Geiger on Finding Community After Coming Out

Though Geiger’s songwriting on Shawn Mendes’ “In My Blood” didn’t win a Grammy on Sunday night (February 10), her words of encouragement to the LGBTQ community won us over.
“I’ve found through coming that there is a big community that are supportive out there,” she told GLAAD on the red carpet. “Don’t stop until you find your people, and do whatever it takes to be able to express yourself and be yourself. And come to L.A.!”
Geiger hit the pop scene with the 2006 hit “For You I Will (Confidence).” In October 2017 when a fan asked on social media why Geiger has looked different lately, she replied: “I am transitioning.”
“Love it or hate it, this is who I’ve been for a long time,” Geiger wrote in a heartfelt response, which was then shared as a separate Instagram post.
Geiger has remained a major player in the music scene since the success from 2006, co-writing songs for One Direction, Christina Aguilera, and, most notably, helping to pen a majority of Shawn Mendes’ 2018 self-titled album.
